“Ripje, vat vere jou doing, vaults?”

Rip sniffed. Then she blinked as eyes watered…

Then the heel of one hand moved to wipe tears from her left eye even as the right streamed.

“Zh-Zhey said you wouldn’t c-come h-home!”, she bawled out, covering her face with both hands as she knelt in the dust with her hair in a roiling mess of inked lines glinting in the low light.

“Zhey said y-you were dead, that’s vhy you w-weren’t back on t-time!”

Her narrow chest shuddered and heaved and she quietly sobbed.

She bent forward and caught the slender woman, pulling her in to her arms with a strong grip around her shoulders.

“Shh… I vas always alright- I vas detained, questioned, but never in danger. I am sorry, mein mond. I am so sorry jou vere told that…” She said, head pressed to the top of the others, speaking in to the jet and navy ribbons that were her hair, kissing her head. “Mein mond, I vill alvays come back to jou…” She promised, strong hands pressing in to her back.

“I have to see my moonlight, right?”

Rip still cried, scrambling to wrap her arms around Zorin and bury her face into the other woman’s shoulder. She curled against her, sniffling and coughing hoarsely once.

“P-Promise me jou will always come back. I vant you to swear.”, she whimpered, looking up at Zorin with scared eyes.

There wasn’t much on God’s green earth Rip cared about… but Zorin was someone she loved very dearly.

She stroked the girls hair, quietly shushing her to try and quiet her, relax her.

“I promise. I vill alway come back, I promise.” She said, nodding. She kissed Rip, closing her eyes. She could give less than a shit about the world, it wasn’t enough, but Rip was the only thing that mattered to her. Rip and the love she showed a beastly woman like Zorin.

Zorin sat there, lighting a cigarette, staring up at the moon. Leaning back against the wall, legs propped on one of the sawhorses behind the barracks, she occasionally looked from the star-freckled sky to the surrounding barracks. It was just chilled enough to keep her awake, but not enough to warrant her jacket. Still, the night felt sweet, even to the brutish woman.

She wondered where Rip was, missed her.

A crack of gunfire, and a giggle.

Rip was perched upon the top of an empty shed, firing at patrolmen for a laugh or three. Ever since Zorin had gone off for God Only Knows what assignment or reason, she had become increasingly depressed, and then bitter.

And she took it out on the people she felt were most likely at fault.

“Ein litt, zwei little, drei little officers..”, she snickered to herself.. when the breeze brought a waft of a familiar scent. German tobacco.

She perked like a hound, turning and inhaling deeply.

Tobacco.

With a vault worthy of a painting, she leapt from the shed roof and ran, her gun strapped along her back so she could move easier. Feet barely touched the ground as she ran towards the sawhorses, towards the smoke.

She nearly slid, and indeed tripped and went forward with a yelp. Two rolls and she shook her head, sitting up dizzily.

To see Zorin smoking and watching the sky.

“Blitz?”, was all she managed to choke out.
